Yamaha YZF-R15 diklaim memiliki beberapa keunggulan di kelasnya yang tidak dimiliki kompetitor. Eko Prabowo, GM Marketing Communication & Community Development Yamaha Indonesia, mengungkapkan Desain R15 merepresentasikan DNA R-Series yang tampil sebagai motor super sport sejati. Desainnya itu meliputi full fairing, lampu depan ganda, speedometer, lampu belakang, key shutter, split seater, cover knalpot. Tampilan lampu utama ganda tajam (dual furious headlight), bodi belakang runcing dan tajam, fairing aerodinamis kekar serta pengendalian yang mantap.
Lampu depan ganda R15 sudah mengadopsi fitur AHO (Automatic Headlamp On) di sisi kiri dan lampu jauh di sisi kanan. Lampu belakangnya terinspirasi R6 dengan desain meruncing dan menggunakan lampu berteknologi LED.R15 menggunakan split seater atau model jok terpisah dengan bahan jok anti slip seperti moge sport kelas dunia. Dilengkapi pula tempat penyimpanan tools di bawah jok. R15 memiliki fairing dual-layer yang dinamis dan aerodinamis, dilengkapi lubang sirkulasi udara agar suhu mesin tetap terjaga.
Speedometer menggabungkan instrumen digital dan analog serta multifungsi karena tersedia beragam indikator lengkap serta mudah terlihat. Kunci utamanya dilengkapi key shutter (penutup lubang kunci) dan anak kunci model laser cut menjamin keamanan maksimal saat diparkir. Cover knalpot menggunakan aksen karbon karbon, tertanam emblem bertuliskan R15 dengan bahan berkualitas tinggi.
